The remains of an ancient wooden boat, believed to be of big archaeological significance, have been retrieved from the Da Rang River bed in the south-central province of Phu Yen.
With the assistance of 10 local residents and specialised equipment, curators brought the wreck ashore in Binh Ngoc commune, Tuy Hoa city, on August 15.
Earlier, the main part of the boat, which is 8.5 m long and 0.5m wide, was retrieved by local residents on August 13 and then handed over to the provincial museum the same day.
Nguyen Thi Kim hoa director of the museum, says that the wooden boat will be used to study the history and culture of the south-central region. The museum has sent samples for further examination.
