“Circle Painting” will be held for the first time in Hanoi on July 20, with the participation of over 400 people.
“Circle Painting” is organised by Vietnamese-American painter Nguyen Cao Hiep, the Friend’s Arms volunteer group and SCorp Communications JS Company. The programme will see the participation of Hanoians, many volunteer organisations and senior government officials.
This project was held in Singapore last year, and joined in by Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, ASEAN Secretary General Ong Ken Young and many Chiefs of State on the occasion of the ASEAN + 3 Summit.
Eight years ago, Nguyen Cao Hiep’s neighbours, children and he himself drew the first common painting at his house, which was the foundation for the “Circle Painting” programme. Launched in 1999, Circle Painting has been to many cities in the US, Australia and Southeast Asian countries. Painter Nguyen Van Hieu is now a lecturer at California University.
“Circle Painting brings everyone the opportunity to enjoy the pleasure of artistic creation, which is normally reserved for a select few people,” Hiep said.
Canvases, colours, brushes… are tools that link different people in society, without any discrimination of social class and position, to make a common painting.
Drawers can freely add something new to the common painting in a common motif. Circle Painting came to Vietnam in August 2007 under the assistance of SOZO. Paintings were auctioned for charity in Hcm city
After a two-day training course (July 12-13), volunteers will start the first lines of two paintings in Circle Painting Day on July 20 at Thong Nhat Park in Hanoi Before drawing, participants who are government officials, workers, motorbike taxi drivers, foreigners, students, the disabled, children, etc. will run, jump, play games, read poems.
The two paintings will be named Connection (4x4m) and Children (2.5x4m).
